Default Before and After (Trying to salvage a picture)

I've been playing around a little bit with post processing. I've got two photos I've tried to make better. Here's the first one, and I'll post the other in a second thread.

Before:

After:

Do you guys think I'm on the right track with this one?

good job, the softening really helps me draw to the attention they are sharing...

nice work!

I think I like the original still.. I liked the clarity of thier hands touching as well as thier gazes. Like a circle of connection. but maybe if you could blur the background just a touch more. Shutterbug ESS

My .02 cents... I like the first one.. try doing sepia to it.. without the blur. again.. just my 2cents.

I think the after is an improvement. The before is pretty flat. The after is very nice and I could see it selling to a portrait client.

I prefer the second shot as well. My only suggestion is not to soften the hands quite as much.

Thanks everyone. My wife (the client in this case ) doesn't like the level of blur on this one either. I was working on one with Sephia and Vignetting when my hard drive on my laptop died... I've ordered another, and it should be in at the first of next week. So it'll be a bit before I can post it to this thread for comparison.

The more I look at it, I think I did get carried away with the blur. And if I don't get carried away with the vignetting, it should be a better fit.

I too like the 2nd one better....I would like to the faces "more" sharp and fade into the softness...Well done...

My fear too..."A Hard Drive Falure"....I have plans to get a new one in Janurary...500GB at least..

Thankfully most of what is on this drive is backed up on another computer. Unfortunatly the other computer is in Florida until June.

I'm hoping the drive will spin long enough to get what I want off of it when the other laptop gets here. I'm going into SA this weekend to look at the mybook 1tb drives. I may pick up a couple of them and make duplicate backups. I get leary of drives over 500gb. I've heard a lot about the larger drives failing. I've got about 50gb of RAW files so far. And that's just going to grow as time goes by. Someone has got to come out with something better for back up with the size of new drives. Old technology just isn't cutting it in the tb world.
