Default Removing Dust from Shining Metal

I recently returned from the Far East where I indulged in a passion of mine, visiting temples. (Yes most allow pictures if the wall paintings are not real old i.e. organic pigments, or the site is particularly venerated - they'll let you know)

I have a shot of Buddha covered in polished gold, but well a little dusty. Anyway to remove dust off of shiny metal in PS?

I figure if you post an example either chuck or Rss or Scott or Arbib or.. I bet they would all be able to help you figure it out.. but with seeing what your talking about it would be extremely difficult.. upload the photo to an album scroll down to the bottom of the photo in the album you will find a BB code copy and paste that into your original post with the edit key.

Perhaps just noisy, not dusty?

If you look at the black areas on the mural behind the Budda, you'll see the noise more clearly perhaps.

Using a popular noise reduction program with the default settings, I reduced the noise considerably. With more time, you could tinker with the settings to get a better result.

If you're interested in seeing the result, send me a message along with your email. I'll fire it off to you.

Edit: Here, I'll include it. I had to reduce the quality to fit under the 200 kb limit.

Any better? The difference is more pronounced when examining under an electronic loupe at 300%. Anyway, it is there for your consideration.

I'll take a look, I cropped this a bit to make it fit. There are actually several statues sitting in a row on the altar. I might have induced the noise. I had to do some fiddling also with the save for the web option in PS. I've another shot from the left looking down the length of the altar where it's more apparent but its a large file.

You could try cropping the area you're concerned about so we could see it at full size without having to be compressed so much for the web.

Its actually a thick layer of dust.. In photo shop you can clone the brighter areas but I would think you would have to know what your doing.. and I dont.. I thought you were talking about actual dust layer.. not dust on the lense.
The flash on the gold can be toned down too which I think would be better. ESS
