Default A brain teaser...what is this snake?

I took this photo in 2006. Can you name the snake and where it might live?

I did some post processing in CS3 and am interested in your C&C about the quality of the photo in general. (I would have liked to not have the straw in front of the snake, but I took what I could get.)

Sure, I can name it. How about, "Henry?" Is it a hognose?

Right! It's an Eastern Hognose snake. I found it in my yard. The very reason this snake is so misunderstood and readily killed by many folks is the reason I really think these snakes are cool. The first thing it will try to do if it detects trouble is sneek off into the brush...so you seldom see them. If it is spotted and it feels threatened, it will coil up, swell its body with air, display it cobra-like neck and hiss very loudly. It looks incredibly threatening. If that doesn't work it will roll over and play dead. While playing dead it will emit an odor to mimic dead meat. They eat tads, lizards, etc. and are not poisonous.

Wait just a damn second.... We have those in Michigan? I hate snakes... I am the guy that will be out in the yard shooting at a little garden snake with a Glock, and I am talking rapid fire. I really really really hate snakes.

Did I say I really hate snakes? Well I really do...

That actually made me laugh out loud! Of course, if I saw a neighbor emptying his Glock into the ground, I probably would look into moving...

I didnt mind snakes until I was about 10 and had one slither right across my bare foot at my aunts house. From that point on I have hated them. I did do a shoot last year with a baby ball python though. I didnt go anywhere near it.

If you ask me, this is a perfectly reasonable way to feel. If I could agree more than a hundred percent, I would...probably two or three hundred.

I have no problem with gators. Just shoo 'em out of the yard. But snakes?? Oh no. Ohhhhh no!!
