Default Calm River

My girlfriend bought property on the Muskegon River, she asked me to take photos of the property for insurance and resale purposes. So I took shots of the property lines and house. Realtors usually take thier own photos but I would think that if presented with better pictures the property would sell faster. Does anyone know how to break into that market? So anyway this photo opportunity came along naturally does it work?
Would it work for a nature magazine?

I dont know about Muskegon but in Kent County the MLS has a photographer on staff as well as its own lab in house to process film for all the agents that shoot the images themselves. And if the agent uses digital then they just upload them to the listing service on their own.

So I'd have to get a realtors license. That's not so lucrative at the moment..lol

No, you dont need a license. I guess my point was that in Kent county the realtors have it all built in for them. If they dont want to take the pics then the GRAR will do it for them, if they shoot it in film the GRAR will process the film and upload the images to the listing for them so there really isnt money in it for a photograper. Some do virtual tours and pay for that service but thats about it.

And if your market is like ours here in Chicago, the virtual tours require a special camera setup. It's basically a parabolic mirror and software to create the 360 degree view from the resulting image. It's not really typically a photographer that does those shots -- just a company that does virtual tours only. Ask them anything about the photography side of it and they have no idea.

Most of the nature magazines have their own photographers or work with a specific set of photographers. Sometimes an outside photographer might be used by a writer doing an article. But nature magazines are few and far between now days. What can work, however, is to target a magazine that you like and read regularly. Look at the articles and how they are photographed. Then write your own article and photograph it and submit it using the styles you have seen that the magazine buys. This can sometimes give you entree to a magazine. Its more of a long shot, but it does happen. The photographs have to be really good, however, and you need an angle --- a new way at looking at something in nature. You can also team up with someone who has writing skills and plan a shoot and article.

For example, I thought about writing an article on Industrial Nature --- or how Nature has changed for our generation. It might have a photo like this:

So that's sort of what I'm talking about when I say come up with something new and different and even jarring.

Cheers,
rfs
