Default Alaska 2007

Tundra in Denali

Denali (The Tall One) about 75 miles away

Glacier as it calves #1 (1 mile away)

Glacier as it calves #2 (1 mile away)

These are a few shots from the family trip to Alaska last summer. I think the JPG compression could have taken away the sharpness as they look crisp on my monitor.

Aside from adjusting the levels a little, bumping up the saturation a tiny bit and formatting for the web these are straight from the camera.

Please let me know if you have any suggestions on how to make the shot better and if you have cropping ideas. Also, any hints on improving their look on the web would be great.

Thanks,

Gil

Nice series of images. The last image of the glacier is amazing.

I have done this type of shot as well, it was with film but the results where almost the same. The second roll after viewing the first I shot catching a little sky or land to contrast the white of the glacier ice that was like yours not all white there where some darker area. At one point I even put a person into the shot from the rear to contrast the white and to show the immense size of the glacier. If you had not had a foot note I would not realized the size of the glacier in your photo from a mile away.
as for the compression as we have seen here and at other locations the website compresses the files and changes there looks slightly. depending if the the shot is resized by the web site a link to the file can look better many times... Just my 2 cents worth, I am not always quiet standing in the back !! Ha Ha Ha...
