Default Hello from Sebastian Florida

I'm a computer programmer, who unwinds from the stress of work by playing with photography. I don't know if I ever want to make my living with photography, because I think it would loose the thrill for me if it were work. But I'd love to have the skills to do so. So I lurk around places that "Real" photographers hang out.

I'm a southern boy at heart, but moved to Florida due to work. Florida is a great place to visit, and I've visited for 2 years now. I'm debating on making my way back to the mountains of Arkansas, or to the San Antonio area for a while now.

I'm still finding my way around the site, and stubled upon this forum, So I thought I'd say Hello.

Welcome to the site!

2 Comments.... As long as I love what I do, I will never work another day in my life. And, isnt Florida in the south?

I've owned my own business, and know the work that goes into it. I've been successful at it. But when I do something as a hobby, I can do what I want when I want with it. If I'm trying to make a living to support my wife, kids, and the zoo my wife has then I have to give the client what they want, not what I want to do.

As far as Florida being in the south, It may be Longitudinally challenged, but it's not part of "The South". The culture, the COL, and especially the food is nothing like the true south.

I understand about Florida... My family is from Kentucky and Florida is nothing like the true south. And, the food from anywhere is not like good old southern cooking.

I've been to Hattiesburg... It's really a nice area. I was in a rush to get out of the south when I was 17. Seems like I spend half my time contemplating getting my kids back there for a proper environment to grow up now.

Welcome to ShotCritic. I was in the computer industry for almost 30 some-odd years.. I do miss it but not the hours and having to deal with other peoples stress. I have been "shooting" since I was 14 or 15, and had to give it up for a number of years due to a "wife". I should never have done that.

Do what you love and it will never be "WORK".

I've been working with computers for over 25 years now (Quite a feat since I'm only 35) but it's become work. Things are changing fast now, and I'm not sure I've got the love of it left to keep up with the curve. I've got skills, and that will keep me in a job till I retire, but being cutting edge and the best with the new stuff may get dropped down a notch or two in my priority list.

The only exposure I had to photography as a kids was a polaroid.

I shot pool as a kid and a teen, and fished. I basicly quit both when I got married. I was playing tournaments before her, now that she's gone and I've found a great wife that supports my interests I don't have the time to get the skills back up. The stupid things we do for love.
