Default Hi from the UK

Hi,
I've always wanted to learn about 'proper' photography, but only last year got around to reading a basic photography book which was great at explaining new concepts. It made me realise how bad my old Sony DSC camera was (no manual focus, two seconds to start up and almost as long again to lock focus).

I spent a long time deciding whether to go for a newer prosumer DSC camera or a DSLR. In the end I figured a DSC camera would only leave me hankering after all the extras I would get with a DSLR.

So, last week I bought a Canon 40D from Amazon (which I didn't realise was a grey import send from Hong Kong - I'm not happy about that) which should be delivered tomorrow.

I found glamour1 after reading one of Rolandos books and both sites seem like very friendly places to hang out. So many photography forums I've looked at seem obsessed with what equipment people are using. This site (and glamour1) concentrate on the final images and the techinques used, which I find far more educational.
