Default Laura

Some recent photographs taken of my friend Laura. Would appreciate some C+C. I used a simple set up with a soft box 30 degrees camera right and a white reflector camera left next to the piano. Nikon D300, F5.6-Iso200-1/125
Thanks,
David

Image #1. I like this shot other then the position of her fingers. Watch the details there.

#2. Her elbow is hyperextended and that looks odd, also the Cropping of her hand is just not working here.

#3. The pose makes her left leg look very thick and the crop just doesnt work. Remember that we dont typically want to crop below a joint like that. It can work on some shots but in general it doesnt. Her left arm seems very awkward here as well. Maybe remember the old saying, if it has a joint, bend it. Even just a little bit can make a huge difference.

I agree. IMO her eyes are not in sharp focus and in #2 and #3 she is not looking at the camera. I think that is why I like #1 best of the three.

Beautiful model and great to have friends like her who will let you practice with them.

Thanks

Smile Re: Laura

A few things..
#1 is your best shot posted..The shadow is a bit dark for my taste in this pose..Maybe a reflector fill on her right side to soften the shadow a little, or you could dodge it in Post....As others has said..the fingers should be folded under loosely. But a great expression, none the less.

#2 Piano is distracting at that angle....The right hand is cut off..a quick fix is to have her hold her hand around her belly, just below her chest...The lighting is nice.

#3 She needs more light in here eyes...and her right hand needs to 100% in the photo by posing it differently....The Pose is nice though..

In portraits with both hands in them, it is important to have the whole hand in the photo..without cutting off the fingers...it a guide line...here is one that works with partial hand and leg...notice the tight crop too. the leg and hand are part of the borders too.

All in all...you have some good ideas here..just a little tweaking..that's why you posted them..for the tweaks advice from many photographers..
