Default Urban Style?

One of the local girls that I'm practicing shots with wants to add some Urban Style shots to her portfolio. She can't seem to describe the style, and while I can find all kinds of references to it being included on Comp Cards, I can't find anything on the web that has examples that says this is Urban Style.

Do you guys have any examples you could point me to, or any definitions you care to share that would give me some insight into what Urban Style is as it pertains to Comp or Zed cards?

Lightbulb Re: Urban Style?

In my understanding...Urban means...
Street cloths...Baggy pants, loss shirts, Color streaked hair (maybe), "Not Gang" clothing though..just comfortable and free style. They could be "Eclectic" in fashion possibly....
Hope I am close anyway. OH Yes...These need to taken Downtown with various BG's...Brick walls, Graffiti Painted walls, Ally's, and the like.

What gets defined as urban is pretty broad. You might do best asking her to tear up some magazines for you. Urban can be a hoody with a trench coat and slacks with sneakers. But I doubt that's the look she wants!

I've asked her to do that. But she's not quite sure what she wants either. What I was hoping was that someone could provide something that might give me some posing and wardrobe ideas. When someone says Glamour, I get a set of images of different poses in my head. Same for Fashion, Artistic nude, and portrait. But when someone says Urban, I draw a blank. I want to get an idea of what's commonly accepted as Urban, and then try to throw my own style into the mix.

Check this link. It is from the place where I get spot art and photos for website designs. It has a good search index. I searched for "urban style" and you can see the results here:

Search Results - High Resolution Stock Photographs

Those photos should give you some ideas.

However, just looking at what some comp cards consider it to be, it usually is defined as: punk hair style, body art, tattoos, etc.

cheers,
rfs

Thanks RFS.

That gives me some place to start. That's exactly what I was looking for.

The magazine idea is a great one.. have her go through magazines and pick things that intrigue you both then what intrigues you..... put them together... thats urban.. making your own style.. from what you have inside. The rest of it is a technicality.
