One thing I have found that I like with winter scenes is is more dof. I dont tend to like them with it so shallow. Winter scenes can also be really cool in B&W. Maybe play around with these a bit and see what you come up with.

These were at the closest focus of 5' with my 40-150. I could of used ISO 400 and gone from f/8 or so (may vary)..to f/22...But then, I may have too much in focus..Typically with macro stuff you only have at best 4' DOF..So, the sharp part needs to be the main subject too...The Lack of DOF adds DEPTH to picture as whole..And separates the subject from the background.

I will see how they work out in B&W...Maybe Sepia too.

You're right. When shooting macro, you never have much of a DOF range.
