Smile Getting Better at this...Macro

I got a +2 close-up lens to add to my "Must Bring" gear..
I can use it on my 14/42 or 40/150 Mk1
Here a few samples from 7/18/2008

Oly E-510 / 40/150 Mk1, +2 Filter, ISO 400, A Mode f/11 (mostly)

IN YOUR FACE !!

Very nice.

I tried shooting some damselflies recently but couldn't get enough DOF at a reasonable shutter speed. Then again I didn't think to increase the ISO.

It also made me wish i had a longer macro lens. 60mm isn't much use with flightly insects on a hot day.

I am finding out, that I am using the 60-130 range most...with an occasional jump to 150mm on my 40/150 Mk1. But the DOF above 110mm or so gets tighter, even at f/11..(For bugs) the Sigma 105mm Macro the right FL for bugs that are a few inches long..and not be at 1:1 magnifications..I find 1/4x or so does better for deeper DOF...But, it is a heaver crop in post..My samples were cropped to a 3mp dimension. And I would print them bigger than 8x10. Getting higher magnifications is nice, but then the DOF is razor thin.. and it becomes more difficult to produce keepers too.

Yeah, I have always liked Macro Photography. In the 70's, I had a Canon F1 with a bellows and used my 50mm f/1.4...Later I bought a Tamron 90mm f2.8 Macro....Then I switched to Olympus with the OM4 and had a Twin Flash TTL unit and another 90mm Macro....So, I guess it is in my blood. But I can't afford $500.00 for a new Macro lens...
