Site promotion Screensavers

You know what, that's a good thing for marketing the site. If once a week, or once a month or what ever time frame RG decided folks from the site submitted pics to a thread for a screen saver. We could put a small water mark on the photo for the photographer, and a small water mark along the lines of "Courtesy of Shot Critic"

Submission to the thread would constitute granting Shot Critic a license to use the photo for the screen saver. If enough people got involved, we could have a weekly or monthly contest for different genre for the screen saver. Sort of like the best 3-5 Flora pics based on popular vote, best 3-5 Landscape, Portrait, Etc...

It might be kinda fun.

Not sure what legs it needs. Anyone who wants to post one of their photos for use as a desktop background can just save it at the most common resolutions and then just post a link in a new message. No development on the part of the site is needed. Are you asking for a shotcritic logo or maybe a site-sponsored contest of some sort? Maybe a "desktops" social group?

There seems to be two different things talked about here. A Screen Saver and a Background or Desktop photo (Wallpaper). The latter is easy as mentioned and anyone can do that right now. A Screen Saver requires the creation of an executable program. This usually means purchasing a Screen Saver creation program. I'm not really in favor of the Screen Saver because of that extra layer of complexity. Now if we are talking about Wall Paper, then I think that could easily be worked out. Is Wall Paper what the original poster was suggesting? I believe that was actually what was being suggested.

I'm familiar with creating screen savers. And I was the one who brought up the origional idea, and Screen savers promoting the site is what I was thinking. The wallpaper part was dealing with the crop of the image, and is what gave me the idea. I think that the two packaged together as a promotion could be pretty cool. And who knows, it could help promote the site and some of the photographers here.
