When I think fashion, I think the shot is selling clothes or some accessory. This shot doesnt say fashion to me in any way. To me it illustrates the not looking style of portraits.

Just my 2 cents

One of my "fashion" images from last week.

With the studio portrait background, it kills the fashion goal of the image. I might add, the space above her head is wasted space too. On the lighting, the poor-man's kinoflo style lighting using shop lamps, it's in my first book! (grin)

All the best, rg sends!

Could it be a ring light? I don't see any catchlights at all in her eyes.

In both r_fredrick_smith's and RSStory's images there are "catchlights" in both models eyes.

In r_fredrick_smith's the "catchlight" looks like a ringlight or similar, yet the eyes in RSStory's model look like a single light.

I dont think in either case can you tell what type of light was actually used as the images are not large enough (or close enough to the models face) to tell.

In my opinion, the first image isnt so much a "fashion" image due to the cropping off of the full outfit the model is wearing. Had it been a "full length" shot, both would, in my opinion qualify.

just my 1.5 cents worth.

It is a ring type light in my case. Or that is what I call it. It creates that alien eye look in the catch light.

Here is what it looks like.

Cheers,
rfs

Interesting do it yourself solution with the light frame. I'd like to try that out myself.

I love the idea of DIY alternatives to some of the traditional (read pricey) gear out there. I'd be interested in seeing some others from some of you guys who have been improvising long before I started. Sometimes this shoestring I've started on seems awfully short.
