Arrow Digital Additions

I thought I would throw this one out there for Critique... It is a popular photo that I created a year ago and actually have sold a few on Canvas. My only dislike of it is that the center house and tree are to centralised but I thought it was hard to work with if i wanted the old man to appear to be walking towards the building and still have some size to him as well. I didnt not have the opportunity at the time to revist and change the angle a bit so that it was more to the right. I wanted the wheat field to have a role in the photo.

Before posting this image the clouds on the left did not have that green tinge to it. Not sure why now.

I think it's a beautiful photograph.

If I were to suggest any changes, it would be these two:
  1. Lower the camera nearer the wheat; and
  2. Have a consistent, perhaps darker, blue sky.

Perhaps getting lower so that the camera is just above the wheat might have made a slight difference. That would also allow you to have your ghostly old man appear very large.

I notice that the sky is lightest is the lower left and darkest in the upper right. I am not sure if that is intentional or not. Myself, I like a lot of contrast, more than most people. So I would have tried to make the sky darker. But that's just me and many people would strenuously object to that change.

I agree it's a beautiful photograph. I like the concept. I hope you don't mind if I steal the idea, I'd like to try something like this.

Very cool concept and implementation. The scene seems tilted a bit, however. While the ground may have been a slight hill, the evergreen seems off center also, making me think the camera was tilted and the image should be straightened.

The ground was kind of rolly and not so flat, it is possible my camera or maybe it was I that had a slight lean... haha

I do have two other similiar concept ones involving a ghost. A b/w sitting at the train tracks and another walking up a flight of stairs in the fall in a river valley. If I remember I will post them later.

It looks fine to me. I imported the image to PS, turned on the grids, and examined the right hand side the building. It looks extremely close to me.

If it looks good to you, that's all that matters. But I think the tree looks straighter with a rotation of just under 1 degree:

/shrug...looking at the two if you don't agree maybe my floor isn't level.

PhotosbyChuck,

Yes, the tree does look more perpendicular in your photo.

I keyed off the building, which looked good to me in the original photo. With regard to the tree, I wasn't sure if the prevailing winds gave the tree a slight lean. Does that ever happen?

In any event, I agree that your photo does look better using either the tree or the building as a reference.

Good eye.

Best regards,
Kevin

You can just call me Chuck! It's not much of a rotation. The tree was what made me notice it, I'd never have seen it in the building alone.
