Lightbulb Working styles for Photographers ...

How do photographers shoot their shots. Do they crouch, stand tall, slouch, etc? These are the important editorial questions that one wants to know the answers to. Here is a shot of a famous photographer shooting a well known model that recently appeared on National TV:

Notice the lighting and the use of the Black reflector. Black reflectors can play an important role in certain types of photography. They allow you to subtract light from the scene (in effect) and have very interesting effects on highlights and especially specular highlights.

Anyway, hope you enjoy this editorial shot.

Cheers,
rfs

Awesome stuff! I can't wait for the snow to get off the ground so I can start shooting outside.

Way to hide the copyright on this one! And you also got the Hensel brand in the shot for extra credit!

Looking forward to the tutorial This famous photographer was aiming for a head shot
and looking for her eyes for focal point. In order to do that he had to get under his natural hieght. So he chose to crouch. What would you do? lol

RG isn't that tall! He's have got a head-on shot of her at his full height (she's wearing heels). Since he's crouched, he wanted her looking down. Such a shot gives a bit of power to the model from the viewer's perspective -- or based on the mood of the shot it can impart other things such as a wistful look.

Keep these kinds of shots coming Roger. As I've said before I enjoy learning this way, Thanks. I agree with Chuck about the copyright on this one. I find myself looking for the way you blend it in your shots.

Sometimes I forget that a small adjustment can add to a shot..I do move around to get the best angle, but having the camera lower so the model has to look down in the camera to give her a more powerful look...I don't always think that detailed...

I will have to apply this on my next model session in s few head shots....I'll even take a series of shots from a higher angle to lower angle, with the same expression, to compare the results. On the 19 and 26 of April I have a model session booked...So I'll post some each. (if someone beats me to it, that's fine, I'll add my results to that thread then).

I typically have a ladder I use when I have a studio session. but I also stoop, crouch, and sometimes I lay on the floor too.

This post has added a new detail to incorporate...

Here is another shot of a Photographer at Work. We call this the wet style where the photog risks his camera for the shot.

This is how those infinity shots are made, by the way (over powering the sun and balancing flash with sun)

Cheers,
rfs
