Default Plaque at the Alamo

This Plaque is on the side of the Alamo. I didn't get much time there, I was walking by to grab a bite to eat at the Riverwalk. I plan on going back there with a lot of time and a monopod. There's a sombre vibe there. And some great scenery.

What do you want us to comment on? I can't read the plaque and you have two photos.

Just keep in mind that there's no photographs allowed inside the chapel.

Why is that? Is it a respect thing? Or a "We own this image" thing?

Respect for the 183+ defenders who died on the grounds. The sign in the front of the chapel also asks men to remove their hats out of respect.

The Alamo complex is quite a bit smaller than it was in 1836, just the inner courtyard area remains. Hotels and shops sit on most of the real Alamo battleground. Even the traditional shape of the chapel isn't correct for what it looked like during the battle. The top piece that gives it the signature shape was added many years later.
The Alamo was also the site of one of the largest surrenders of the United States military. General David E. Twiggs surrendered about 20% of the US army to Confederate forces when he defected to the South at the outbreak of the Civil War. He took the weapons and military supplies of the troops he commanded defending the southern border and paroled the men to return home. He was given command of Louisiana by the Rebel army, but died of illness in 1861 before really doing anything.

I can understand removing your hat... That's showing respect. I don't understand how a photo of the area is disrespectful. But I'll honor their wishes and not snap any shots inside.

I've taken shots in Cemetaries, Chapels, Cathedrals, and other places that I have respect for. I've never thought once of wanting to preserve a memory as being disrespectful.

This rule was set up many years ago. It's really pretty dark in there if my memory is correct. It may have come about during the age of massive one time flashbulbs.
